Cine North at BFI Audience Academy for 16-19 year olds

Fri, 22 May 2015

The BFI Audience Academy is recruiting 30 talented 16-19 year olds from across the UK, who love watching and talking about films. Taking place in Sheffield from Sunday 2nd to Saturday 8th August, the week-long residential experience offers participants an opportunity to learn from leading industry professions about how, why and what films make it to the big screen. The Cine North team will be onsite, talking about how our project brings high quality digital cinema to audiences with little or no access to it. We'll be discussing our successes and what you can learn from our project.

The intensive and inspirational course provides insight into all aspects of film programming, marketing, exhibition and distribution, with opportunity to put the learning into practice. Highlights include:

  • Finding out how to design, programme and market a film festival Learning how to curate and programme for commercial and independent cinemas
  • Investigating how the way we watch films has changed over the last 100 years Working in groups to design your own film festival
  • Having a chance to present a taster event for your festival in a real cinema - for a real audience
  • Working with mentors to develop your own personal plan for your next steps towards working in the Film Industry Joining a trip to the UK exhibitor’s conference This Way Up in December as part of an Audience Academy delegation

The course costs £50 – which includes all accommodation and food – however if applicants are unable to pay this bursaries are available. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 30th June. For full information please see: www.showroomworkstation.org.uk/info/audienceacademy
