Showtime Success As The Forum Launches New Brand & Website

Wed, 17 Apr 2013

On Saturday 13th April The Forum in Northallerton celebrated its first six months under community management – and the launch of its new logo and website http://www.forumnorthallerton.org.uk/ – with an Open Day and Evening Gala Showcase, including a special guest appearance by the Forum’s new patron, world-wide acclaimed Mountaineer and author Alan Hinkes (pictured with the Forum’s youngest volunteer Zach Haynes!).

The Forum is home to a state of the art digital cinema, put in place by Cine Yorkshire as part of the BFI Rural pilot initiative, which aims to bring a high quality digital cinema experience to communities most underserved by cinema provision in the UK.  The local community successfully raised funds to purchase the screening equipment and secure a permanent digital cinema at the venue, which presented its first film on the new big screen in September 2011. The Forum is also installing satellite equipment, enabling it to screen live broadcasts from alternative content providers such as the NT Live series, which has been incredibly successful at other Cine Yorkshire network venues including Selby Town Hall and Galtres Centre, Easingwold. Since Hambleton District Council handed over reins to the local community in September 2012, it has already gone from strength to strength. Hundreds of local people visited the venue throughout the day to see and sample some of the activities and events that are held there on a regular basis. There was the chance to use the Forum’s bouncy castle (normally available for children’s parties) for free, and loads of information about all sorts of local groups – from the U3A to the Flower Club – that form key parts of the Forum’s programme.

In the evening, an invited audience of over 200 guests experienced a fantastic night of entertainment provided by the Allerton Players, Northallerton Male Voice Choir, Zumba Northallerton and Northallerton Musical Theatre Company amongst many others, and there was even the chance for audience members to try their hand at Carpet Bowls as part of the interval entertainment.
