A Hansel of Film 2012 to Showcase Regional Filmmakers - The Mart Theatre, Skipton, 28th June

Wed, 6 Jun 2012

Filmmakers from Yorkshire and Humber will have the opportunity to watch their films on the big screen after being selected from hundreds of entries to take part in a UK wide film relay in celebration of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The films, made by groups and individuals from Leeds, Sheffield, York, Cleethorpes and Lincoln, will screen at The Mart Theatre in Skipton on Thursday 28th June from 7.30pm. The event is part of a UK wide project created by Shetland Arts and is co-hosted and supported by Cine Yorkshire. It is the only regional screening and is FREE for members of the public to attend.

‘A Hansel of Film – Shetland to Southampton and Back’ is a relay of short films made by the public across the UK , spreading the spirit of the London 2012 Festival from Shetland in the north to Southampton in the south and back again. Following a UK wide call out for entries, the relay kicked off in Shetland on 10 June with the arrival of the Olympic Torch in the isles as it arrived at the UK’s most northerly point. http://hansel2012.org/

The final films, selected by the Hansel team at Shetland Arts along with Screenplay Curators Mark Kermode and Linda Ruth Williams, are being relayed between 24 participating venues by ‘runners’, challenged to employ whatever means of transport they can devise to get the right films to the right venue on time.  They will be delivered to The Mart Theatre in Skipton by a Shetland fiddler, who will hand them over to a pantomime horse called Champion, tasked with delivering them to the next venue in Cambridge. The relay will culminate in a marathon screening of over 100 short films at Shetland Arts’ annual film festival, Screenplay 2012, between 4th and 9th September.

The following films have been selected to screen in the programme at The Mart Theatre, Skipton alongside a selection from Berwick and Shetland:
