In 1945, in Denmark, after the defeat of Germany, a tough veteran Danish Sergeant is assigned to defuse and remove 2.2 million mines from beaches along the Danish west coast. The novel solution he develops is to use German POWs to accomplish this terrifying task. Gradually, his attitude toward the young POWs softens, and he begins to understand the real horror of what he is been asked to do.
