May / June 1940 and approx 400,000 British soldiers are cornered by German forces in the French port town of Dunkirk. The only way to get these troops back home is via a sea evacuation. Despite a dire set of circumstances, including a lack of aerial and naval cover, British citizen back home come to the aid of the soldiers, in the first real expression of 'in-it-together' camaraderie. The film unfolds over a complex time period, taking in three different vantage points, from air, land and sea. Probably the biggest British movie of the year.
